Loogootee School Campuses
Loogootee High School does not just follow state standards; it sets them. We take immense pride in being the first public high school in Indiana to achieve Official STEM Certification from the Indiana Department of Education. This isn't merely a title, it is a commitment to a K-12 Project Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum that prepares students for a global economy before they even graduate. From our hallways to the skies, we host one of the state's only FAA-certified drone programs, giving our students literal flight paths into high-demand careers in aviation and technology.

Indoor Athletic Facilities
Jack Butcher Arena
Named after the legendary Jack Butcher -- the Loogootee native who turned down the Boston Celtics to lead the Lions boys basketball team for 45 years and ultimately be an inductee into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame -- this arena is a monument to Hoosier Hysteria and is our flagship venue hosting both basketball and volleyball.
As one of the last remaining sunken-style gyms designed by the late Evansville-based architect Ralph Legeman, its capacity of 4,571 makes it the largest Class 1A venue in the state.

The Historic JFK Gym
For the die-hard Indiana high-school basketball fan, the JFK Gym (built in 1927) is a must-visit. The building was constructed on the campus of the former Loogootee High School.
Local lore suggests this "cathedral of hoops" was nearly immortalized as a filming location for the movie Hoosiers -- and stepping inside, it's easy to see why. The gym remains an immaculate "time capsule," featuring the elusive wrap-around balcony that allows fans to hang right over the action.
The building was constructed on the campus of the former Loogootee High School in 1927.
While the gym maintains its 1920s ambiance and art-deco achetectural style -- including the original ticket booth, grand crimson staircases, and Coach Jack Butcher’s original office perched above the stage -- it has been thoughtfully maintained for the modern era. The playing surface was recently refinished with a modern sheen, featuring the classic Loogootee Lion logo at center court, ensuring that even as a "retired" gym, it remains a vibrant, functional piece of our athletic heritage.
