The project, which is designed as workforce housing, is the result of strong collaboration between city officials, developers, and state partners, including support from the Regional Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) 2.0 and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA). The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by key figures including Indiana Governor Mike Braun and Loogootee Mayor Brian Ader. Construction officially began following the ceremony. The project is estimated to be completed by November 2026, with leasing projected to begin in July/August 2026.

Oak Street Village, located at 507 N Oak Street, is poised to address critical needs in Martin County:

  • Workforce Housing: The complex will feature 50 units with a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, providing quality housing options for families and working individuals. The units will serve households earning between 30% and 60% of the area median income.
  • Childcare Facility: A crucial element of the development is a 4,500 sq. ft. licensed childcare facility. This facility is expected to bring 60 new childcare seats to Martin County, offering a much-needed resource for working families.
  • Amenities and Services: The project will enhance the community with a public pavilion and playground, a private playground, and additional pickleball courts. It will also include on-site supportive services such as financial literacy, job training, and resources for first-time homebuyers.
