May 26, 2026

The City of Loogootee and the Loogootee Water Works have officially published the 2025 Annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report). Covering the comprehensive testing period from January 1 to December 31, 2025 , the report provides residents with transparent data regarding local operations, regulatory compliance, and public health safety standards.

Loogootee’s drinking water is sourced entirely from a dependable groundwater supply utilizing six municipal wells. As groundwater travels beneath the surface, it is carefully drawn, treated, and monitored by utility teams to ensure it meets strict public health guidelines before ever reaching a resident's tap. To maintain these high standards, the water system routinely analyzes samples for microbiological contaminants and maintains consistent disinfectant residuals to control microbial growth.

Key Takeaways from the 2025 Testing Data

  • Full Regulatory Compliance: Detected levels of all regulated contaminants—including Barium, Fluoride, Nitrate, Lead, Copper, Chlorine, Haloacetic Acids, Total Trihalomethanes (TTHMs), and Radium-228—remained well within safe, established regulatory health limits.
  • Zero PFAS or Lithium Detections: In alignment with the U.S. EPA Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR), the city proactively screened for Lithium and 29 distinct PFAS compounds across multiple 2024 testing cycles, resulting in zero detections across the board.
  • No Lead Exceedances: The system recorded zero lead or copper action-level exceedances across all primary testing sites.

Lead Service Line Inventory Completed

In compliance with EPA regulations, Loogootee Water Works has successfully completed its lead service line inventory. While lead exposure is primarily tied to older household plumbing components , the city is actively helping residents identify their service line materials.

Residents who want assistance can contact the utility office for verification or to schedule a free, voluntary inspection from a service team member. Households can also complete this service line inventory survey in person by visiting the utility office at 401 North JFK Avenue, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Administrative Note

In the interest of total transparency, the city notes a minor procedural violation during the reporting period related to the Consumer Confidence Rule. Due to an administrative oversight, the report’s state certification form was delivered late to environmental regulators. This was strictly a clerical filing deficiency; it indicates absolutely no issue with water quality, and no health or safety risks were posed to residents.
